Homemade Cinnamon Applesauce

Ingredients

  • 4–6 apples (peeled, cored, and chopped)
  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp OOOFlavors Cinnamon Flavor Concentrate

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients in a saucepan:

    • In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped apples, water, and sugar (if using). Stir well to mix.
  2. Cook the apples:

    • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
    • Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover with a lid, and let the apples simmer for 15–20 minutes, or until soft and easily mashed.
  3. Mash the apples:

    • Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the apples to cool slightly.
    • Use a potato masher, fork, or blender (for a smoother texture) to mash the apples to your desired consistency.
  4. Add the cinnamon flavor:

    • Stir in the OOOFlavors Cinnamon Flavor Concentrate and mix until evenly incorporated.
  5. Adjust sweetness and flavor:

    • Taste the apple sauce and adjust as needed. Add more sugar for sweetness or more cinnamon flavor concentrate for a stronger spice.
  6. Cool and store:

    • Allow the apple sauce to cool completely. Transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Pro Tips:

  • Use a mix of apple varieties for a balanced flavor—try combining sweet apples like Fuji or Gala with tart apples like Granny Smith.
  • For a richer taste, add a splash of vanilla extract or a pinch of nutmeg.

Serving Ideas:

  • Enjoy as a snack or side dish.
  • Use as a topping for oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, or yogurt.
  • Serve as a filling for baked goods like turnovers or crepes.
